Cordoba C5 Acoustic Nylon String Classical Guitar review:

Before reviewing the Cordoba C5, it is important to consider who it is for. The C5 is a full-size guitar that is easy to play and is thus ideal for beginners and learners. Hence, if you are an aspiring classical guitarist, then this review is for you.

Construction and design:

The Cordoba C5 has an hourglass shaped body with a Canadian Cedar top. Laminated mahogany back and sides add to the visual appeal of the guitar.

Weighing a meager 3.8 pounds, the C5 is one of the lightest guitars on the market. And with a nut width of 52 millimeters and a hand carved headstock and rosewood fingerboard, this is a typical classical guitar.

Unlike other beginner guitars, the saddle and nut on the C5 are made of bone and not plastic. The fan bracing adds to its classical style. Overall, the C5 is a beautiful guitar you are bound to fall in love with at first sight.

Sound quality:

The sound quality of this guitar is exceptional considering its price tag. The thinner cinder top paired with the fan bracing pattern produce a loud and responsive sound.

When played at the sound hole, the C5 produces a warm and clear sound and tone. The all wood inlaid rosette also adds to the C5’s exquisite sound quality.

The fan bracing is designed to give the guitar a louder sound as it provides the center of the soundhole with a large surface are to vibrate and respond to the string’s tension. As a classical guitar, the C5 comes fitted with nylon strings Savarez Crystal Corum nylon strings to be exact.

Contrary to what you might think, the factory set-up action of this guitar is perfect for a beginner. This is because the high action allows you to play the low frets with no problems. As you advance, you can adjust the action to get to the higher frets.

The C5 has an adjustable truss and rod. In addition to the high action, this guitar also features wide string placement and easy string tension, both of which are perfect for beginners.

The Cordoba C5 comes in two variants, the right-handed and the left-handed version. Furthermore, there are two electric-acoustic C5 model variants. The acoustic-electric version of the C5 is known as the C5-CE and has almost the same features as the C5 with the only difference being that the CE sports a single cutaway design for reaching the higher frets.

The CE comes with an onboard tuner that eliminates the need to purchase an additional tuner. The C5-CEBK is the other electric variant of the traditional C5. But unlike the C5 and the CE the CEBK version has a jet black finish different from the glossy finish of the other two.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Question: Does the C5 come with straps?

Answer: As a classical guitar, the C5 does not have pegs for attaching a strap, and neither does it come with a strap. However, it is still easy to carry, thanks to the well-padded deluxe gigbag that is purchased separately.

The gig bag is a standard size bag that can accommodate a full-size guitar and is water repellent. Also, the bag comes with straps, a sturdy zipper, and a decent backpack. The Cordoba C5 can fit into most standard gigbags.

Question: Is it a classical or an acoustic and what is the difference?

Answer: This is a question frequently asked by beginners who are unfamiliar with the different types of guitars. The C5 is a Spanish Classical guitar, which means that it uses nylon strings as opposed to steel strings and the strings are wide apart.

An acoustic guitar uses steel strings placed close to one another and is ideal for strumming using a pick. A classical guitar, on the other hand, is ideal for fingerpicking due to the wide placement of the strings. The C5 is a classical guitar that uses nylon acoustic strings.

Question: Is it made in Spain or China?

Answer: This is another frequently asked question and stems from the notion that Chinese products are of low quality. However, contrary to this notion, the C5 and other guitars sold in the US are made in China and are usually of high quality.

Thus, the fact that this guitar is Chinese made should not worry you. The truth is most of the products we use are made in China; the iphone included. The guitar has a sticker near its fretboard that indicates it is manufactured in China.

Final Verdict:

The Iberia series of guitars from Cordoba comprises of the half, and full sized guitars manufactured from solid African mahogany wood and features Cedar wood or European Spruce tops.

Some of the popular models in this series include the C7, C5-CE, and the C9. Of the three models mentioned none is as popular as the C5. The popularity of the latter can be attributed to a number of things key among them its price. The C5 is seen as a cheaper alternative to the pricey C7 model.

Additionally, the C5 features the same high-quality craftsmanship as all other guitars in the Iberia series. Therefore, if you are looking for a quality beginner guitar that will not cost you much, the Cordoba C5 is the guitar for you. In conclusion, this guitar is still a favorite of mine and is a guitar that I would recommend to any beginner.
